Sandra Ann Vita Minchin
Are all the Roses blue and the Violence red?
Galway Arts Centre is proud to announce Are all the Roses blue and the Violence red?, a solo exhibition of work by Sandra Ann Vita Minchin. Opening Friday 11th March at 6pm, this exhibition will continue until the 23rd April 2011.
Born in Galway, Sandra Minchin received a B.A. in Fine Art from the Limerick School of Art and Design (1996). She subsequently completed a Masters Degree in Crawford College of Art, Cork, where she specialised in video art and installation-based work. Her artistic practise and her work as a curator have seen her exhibiting and working nationally, and internationally in locations such as Shanghai, Amsterdam, Melbourne and the United Arab Emirates. Most recently Minchin has exhibited with Sirius Arts Centre, Cork, and she is also currently exhibiting in the group photography exhibition All My Lovin’ at Crawford Art Gallery, Cork.
Minchin has developed a reputation for taking radical departures in installation, performance and photography. In Are all the Roses blue and the Violence red?, Minchin deals with subconscious fears, responding to her personal experiences of illness and making reference to the martyred, executed and tortured body. Minchin uses photography, objects and installation to evoke fear of the unknown while simultaneously concealing the pain and fear of the sufferer. Her combination of controversial and striking imagery through various media convey a thought-provoking and stimulating body of work which challenges the viewer to confront their own bodily and psychological fears.
