Gregory Mc Cartney is the originator and co- ordinator of North West Visual Art Archive, whose aim is to accumulate, collate and make publicily available a coherently structured and easily accesible visual arts archive covering the North Wesr region. For Tulca 2008 the North West Visual Art Archive presents 'Live: Archive; 01' the first of its Live Archive exhibitions/project programme.
'Live: Archive: 01' is a linear history of Derry's new defunct Orchard Gallery in installation form using gallery ephemera such as catalogues, invitation cards, gallery handouts and reviews. The Orchard Gallery ran from 1978 to 2003 and established itself as an exciting institution at the forefront of contemporary art showing many of the leading names of Irish, European and world art.
It put derry on the map as far as contemporary art was concerned. The installation is also an interactive research project that will offer the public the opportunity to contribute their memories, anecdotes and opinions of the gallery to the project thus creating a written narrative to accompany the exhibition
