The Shadow Navigation Shows
Acclaimed musician, poet and artist Jo Beth Young teams up with roots musician Serious Child and a joint band for her first tour since 2019. The Shadow Navigation Shows will bring songs, stories and visuals to navigate the seas of human experience and heal our collective souls. They will feature material from both artists in intimate shows in beautiful and unusual venues across Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland.
Jo Beth Young
Internationally acclaimed musician, poet, and artist returns to County Clare – bringing songs, stories and visions to navigate the shadows of human experience.
Jo Beth Young (FKA Talitha Rise/RISE) is a hidden gem rising from the alt/neo-folk and prog scenes. Her ethereal vocals and mesmeric musical style have been enrapturing and provoking deep emotional responses from audiences since the 2018 debut album An Abandoned Orchid House and 2019’s follow-up Strangers.
Writing from a place of raw authenticity, her poetic world comes armed with lullabies and battle cries interwoven. At times heartbreaking, but always hopeful and inspiring in the end. Her live shows are known to bring deep, emotional magic to the audience, capturing the attention of the national press who have described her live shows as “unmissable” and “exquisite”.
The Shadow Navigation Show brings a new, beautifully-crafted, live experience aligned with the Ireland based songwriter’s much anticipated new album Broken Spells. Teaming up with the eclectic talents of UK songwriter and roots musician Serious Child, this is an experience of spiritually charged storytelling, hypnotic original songs with an atmospheric film and visual backdrop – this promises to be an unforgettable night.
“Brilliantly atmospheric vocals…elegant rhythms…a winning confluence of globe spanning folk music.” – Record Collector Magazine****
“Deeply moving and soulful” – Louder Than War
“A mesmerising and powerful performance that keeps an appreciative audience under its spell” – Prog Magazine
“Extraordinary talent” – BBC Introducing
Serious Child
The show also features Serious Child (songwriter and roots musician Alan Young). Serious Child draws from a wide range of acoustic musical influences from folk to pop to bossa nova to explore the world around us with a poet’s ear for emotion and a comedian’s eye for everyday detail. His album with Andy Ruddy, Talk About The Weather, was shortlisted for Fatea Album of the Year 2021.
