Arts Alive Galway are delighted to unveil two exceptional audio-visual pieces created in collaboration with artist Jane Cassidy. Identity delves into the multifaceted identities of ten artists with intellectual disabilities.

People with intellectual disabilities are often marginalised in society, they can go unseen and their voices unheard. By showcasing the identity of 10 individuals with intellectual disabilities IDENTITY aims to challenge preconceived notions around people with intellectual disabilities and reshape the way the world sees them. By showcasing their perspectives and lives the exhibition seeks to dismantle stereotypes and to amplify their voices.

“Portraits of our Lives” uses animation, video, and voice over to delve into the talents, interests, and dreams of the ten artists in Arts Alive. Each digital portrait aims to celebrate the richness of their individuality and platform their diverse identities. The piece was created in collaboration with Jane Cassidy and Laura O’Connell, it uses animations created on Procreate, video pieces and voice overs all created by the artists over a 5 month period.

“Projections of an Artist” is a multimedia digital art film that was created by the 10 artists in Arts Alive Galway in collaboration with artist: Jane Cassidy, choreographer: Gary Walshe and film maker: Alison McDonnell- White. The 10 artists developed individual digital art pieces creating imagery that reflect something important in their lives. Their artwork in the film is projected back onto the artists as they move, dance and connect with their artwork. This exhibit also offers the audience an experience of immersing themselves within the projections that the artists have created. Original music by Jane Cassidy.

Proudly supported by Galway City Arts Office and Brothers of Charity Services Ireland.
