Galway Arts Centre is saving the best for last and in conjunction with the Volvo Ocean Race Stopover is holding a free family event on Ladies Beach, Salthill on Saturday 30th May from 2.30pm to 5pm. At 2.30pm performance artist Michelle Browne will do a performance involving singers, a boat and radio transmissions, entitled ‘In Search of the Miraculous’. The visually stunning performance is sure to be a delight for those on the beach and also on boats in the bay, as her performance will be transmitted over radio. After this breathtaking event adults and children are invited to kick back, relax and get creative in Galway Arts Centre’s Sand Castle Building Competition. Teams of five are invited to sign up and compete to build the most fantastic, spectacular sand sculptures and sand castles on Ladies Beach at 3pm. To get the creative juices flowing chilled out sounds will be provided by Mr. Whippy Soundsystem. This popular DJ will roll up to the prom in his specially modified ice-cream van and instead of handing out ice cream will be handing out an excellent mix of music to get people moving and shaking. The Competition will be judged by Galway Arts Centre’s Paraic Breathnach who will be accompanied by Craig Stevens, who will be known to many Galway children for his school visits with ‘Mad Science’. To make up this trio of harsh judges is world famous Little John Nee, actor, director and performer who has wowed audience with his stunning and often darkly hilarious one man shows in Galway and beyond. Prizes will be provided by Salthill businesses such as Lohan’s and the Atlantica Aquarium. This event has been funded by Let’s do It Galway for the Volvo Ocean Race Stopover.
