Galway Arts Centre presents a range of exciting events across its two venues; Nuns Island Theatre and 47 Dominick Street from 10am – Midnight for this very special Culture Night! Expect master storytelling, artists conversations, music, song and craic!

All events are connected to the current exhibition of the 2021 Turner Prize winning art installation “The Druthaib’s Ball” by Array Collective.

Storytelling by Eddie Lenihan

6pm-7pm Friday 23 September | Nuns Island Theatre

Join us at this very special storytelling event by master storyteller, seanchaí and author Eddie Lenihan. Sharing Irish heritage and history for over 50 years, Eddie Lenihan has dedicated his life to collecting Irish oral histories and stories and publishing over 17 books. A national treasure, he has delighted generations of people in Ireland and all over the world with his stories of faeries, (The Good People) ogres, monsters, banshees, giants, ghosts and much, much more. Expect some spine tingling scary stories for older children and adults!

Array Collective In Conversation

9pm-10pm Saturday 23 September | Galway Arts Centre

Join the artists of the Array Collective in a lively chat and Q&A about their Turner Prize winning work The Druthaibs Ball currently on exhibit in Galway Arts Centre.

Array Collective are a group of 11 artists rooted in Belfast who create collaborative actions in response to socio-political issues affecting Northern Ireland.Array Collective question traditional identities in the North of Ireland using humour and DIY approaches. They playfully merge performance, protest, ancient mythology, photography, installation and video. Their work embraces joy and empathy in their art-activist practice and calls attention to our need for one another by joining wider demands for rights.
Array Collective are the first Northern Irish artists to win the prestigious Turner Prize. They were awarded the prize for their work The Druthaib’s Ball in 2021.

Array Collective are: Sighle Bhreathnach-Cashell, Sinéad Bhreathnach-Cashell, Jane Butler, Emma Campbell, Alessia Cargnelli, Mitch Conlon, Clodagh Lavelle, Grace McMurray, Stephen Millar, Laura O’Connor and Thomas Wells.

Traditional Irish Music Session as part of “The Druthaib’s Ball”

10pm-midnight Saturday 23 September | Nuns Island Theatre

Join us for ceol agus craic in the unique setting of the immersive installation of “The Druthaib’s Ball” with traditional Irish musicians Ciarán de Burca + Cairde in this open trad session! Expect traditional Irish music, singing and chat and the invitation to join in a sing song! All taking place in the centre of a unique and immersive Turner Prize winning artists installation!
Presented in partnership with Aras na nGael.
