Festival,

Founded in 1985 by Galway Arts Centre, the Cúirt International Festival of Literature began with a focus on poetry, growing into a week-long festival including fiction and non-fiction events and  has been a highlight of the Galway Arts Centre’s annual programme ever since.

As one of Europe’s oldest book festivals, Cúirt is a leading voice for literature both internationally and across Ireland, committed to creating a space where all audiences are empowered through literature, bringing readers and writers together to tell stories, share new perspectives, and to celebrate writing, books, and reading in all its forms.

For Cúirt’s 40th Birthday we are delighted to host a wide selection of world-class authors who are at the pinnacle of their writing careers, as well as introducing you to compelling new voices and debut authors.

Cúirt will be welcoming literary stars such as Sally Rooney, Roddy Doyle, and Anne Enright to Galway Townhall Theatre, with many more brilliant writers showcasing their work and having inviting discussions across Galway’s favourite venues.

As always, there will be a range of literary forms, with a Poetry sessions series in partnership with Poetry Ireland, and numerous literary journals from Ireland and abroad staging talks.

This year, the programming includes special commemorative events and archival projects, such as the return of the Cúirt lecture, given by Ahmed Masoud who will discuss The Literature of Sumud.
