Galway Dance Artist in Residency 2020-2021 Bernadette Divilly showcases
the culmination of her work from her residency
Speaker: Deputy Catherine Connolly
BeDance Professional Dancers: Sophie Hutchinson, Lisa Cliffe, Yasmin Mello Da Cruz Cabrera
Musicians: Sharon Murphy, Clare Sawell
This showcase and publication launch is a culmination of Bernadette’s Dance Artist Residency which incorporates BeDance Professional Development Quartet. Her practice BeDance continues to evolve and provide opportunities with focus on environmentally conscious diversity in public engagement and Professional Development.
Bernadette Divilly’s Dance Artist Residency 2021 is beautifully captured in a new publication ‘Be Dance’ created by Artisan House Connemara. Bernadette’s Dance Artist Residency, funded by the Arts Council, commenced in September 2020 in the midst of COVID 19. ‘With the world in lockdown, I explored options to be in my home dancing with others in their home locally, nationally, and internationally. I came, reluctantly, to engage with technology. I created tutorial videos; made podcasts; conducted workshops and events using zoom. Be Dance is my own dance practice which evolved and took shape during 2020/2021’ said Bernadette.
Bernadette added ‘I was keen to have a record of an extraordinary period which influenced the shape and structure of my residency. I took on the challenge in a playful, creative and hopefully impactful way. The book pays homage, I hope, to all the participants, funders, and community who participated and I wish to acknowledge the work of Artisan House in creating a publication that showcases this beautifully. The book will be launched in Galway Arts Centre’s Nun’s Island Theatre on Winter Solstice on 21st December, 2021.
Bernadette would like to acknowledge the support and funding from the Arts Council, Galway City and County Arts offices, Ballinasloe Library, Galway Dance Project, Dance Ireland, Dance Art Lab, Contemplative Dance Practice International, Sounds Doable, Galway Rural Development, Shawbrook Dance Residency and Galway Arts Centre.
